Awakening with Spring: Finding Fresh Energy Through Yoga & Nature

There is something refreshing about the arrival of spring. The days grow longer, the air begins to soften, and little signs of new life appear everywhere. After the slower pace of winter, spring invites us to wake up, move a little more, and spend more time outside.
Rather than making this season about goals or resolutions, let spring simply be an invitation to feel more alive.
Spring can be a wonderful time to bring a little more energy into your yoga practice. If your winter practice has been slower and more restorative, gradually introduce movement that feels energizing and uplifting.
Try beginning with a few gentle stretches to loosen the body, followed by flowing movements that help you warm up. You might explore Sun Salutations, gentle standing flows, or flowing twists.
There is no need to push or create an intense workout. Let your practice feel like opening a window and letting fresh air into a room—simple, refreshing, and welcome.
Breath can also help us transition into the energy of spring.
As you move through your practice, notice whether you can make your breath a little fuller. Let your inhale create space and your exhale to help you soften unnecessary tension.
You might even take a few moments at the beginning of your practice to stand quietly, breathe deeply, and notice how your body feels today.
Spring is a season of movement, but that doesn't mean we have to rush.
One of the simplest ways to connect with the season is to step outdoors.
If the weather allows, take your yoga mat into the garden, onto a patio, or to a quiet spot in a park. You don't need a perfect view or a long practice. Even a few stretches outside can make your practice feel different.
Notice the warmth of the sun on your skin. Listen to the birds. Feel the breeze as you move. Let your eyes wander toward the trees, flowers, and new growth around you.
Nature can become part of the practice.
And if taking your mat outside isn't practical, simply open a window, bring a plant into your practice space, or take a short walk before or after yoga.
Spring doesn't ask us to become someone new overnight. It simply reminds us that change can happen naturally and gradually.
Your yoga practice can reflect that same rhythm. Maybe you move a little more freely. Maybe you try a different class or practice somewhere new. Maybe you spend a few extra minutes walking outside after class.
Follow what feels refreshing rather than what feels like another task to accomplish.
For a simple spring-inspired practice, try:
A few minutes of gentle stretching
Several rounds of Sun Salutations at your own pace
A standing flow that feels energizing
A few moments of quiet breathing
A short walk outdoors afterward
Keep it simple. Let your body guide the pace.
Spring offers a beautiful reminder that energy returns in its own time. The trees begin to bud, flowers emerge, and the landscape slowly becomes brighter.
We can allow ourselves to do the same.
This season, instead of asking what you need to accomplish, simply notice what helps you feel awake, energized, curious, and connected.
Step outside. Take a breath. Move your body. Notice what is blooming around you—and enjoy being part of the season.
